Coming to an end

Hi everyone,

Next week will not only be my final day, but it will also be the final event, winding up the campaign "Help the Fremantle Dockers Tackle Asthma" which i've been working on since March this year.

Everything is almost in place. This morning my boss David, the marketing coordinator Mel and I went down to the Fremantle Footy Club to meet with the girls who run Freo's events and PR side of things.

The meeting was basically just to finalise the details... the catering is sorted; the MC is sorted; we have given the event to The Sunday Times exclusively because they will do a bigger story than the West Australian.

The problem we faced though, is that out of the 10 corporate sponsors for the campaign, only two have RSVP'd to the event and without them, the event will be a disaster. It's only very small as it is, and we are presenting thankyou gifts to each of the sponsors and require at least one (but preferably two) people from each company to come as representatives.

We have called and emailed all these people countless times, and this afternoon I spent ages on the phone trying to get as many attendees as possible! Fortunately, by the end of the day we were only chasing 3, and the marketing coordinator took care of this over the rest of the week. One bad thing about working for non-for-profit is that most corporate people don't take you seriously. They like to be involved because it makes them look good, but that's about as far as it goes. It's like pulling teeth!

Just quickly, I didn't blog last week, but I had an interesting day and learnt alot. My boss found two photos on Google that he wanted to frame as a part of a gift for a company, but we needed to get permission to do so. They were photos of Fremantle Football players tackling, and were photos which had been used in articles by The Sunday Times. My job on this day, was to get the permission. I ended up calling The Sunday Times, getting put through to their copy-right guy, who then put me through to the paper in Queensland who it was actually published originally by, who then put me back through to Perth to the photographer who took the photo. This guy then said all their photos had rights attached to the AFL so i'd have to call the AFL to gain permission... two phone calls later I was directed back to the photographer, with permission from the AFL and a request for the photos to be emailed to me in high definition.

It was so surreal calling all these people, purely because they were so helpful and friendly, even though most of them I called on their mobiles, expecting them to be annoyed with the young girl who is asking all these questions. It felt great to have achieved something on my own, even if it was quite small.

Fingers crossed next week all runs smoothly, thanks for reading :)
