THE END OF HARVEY
Hey Everyone, this is my second blog from working at the Fremantle Football Club.
Yesterday afternnon Mark Harvey the coach of the Fremantle Dockers was sacked effective immediately, this means that he was sacked on the spot and had to stand down from his position immediately. Today when we all arrived at work this issue was still in an uproar as a press release was happening whilst we were at work, interviewing the new coach to take Harvey's position. I did not have much to do with this issue even though it is a huge job for the PR team, however the Dockers do not have a PR department so it was up to all of the different departments to do their part. Next week we will be sending out an email to the Corporate Clients and putting a story in the Docker Magazine so I will be helping to write these and adding the story into the e- newsletter which will be a big job for me.
This issue also bring up ethics which is a huge topic in Public Relations. All day we have had various types of media outside the club, protesters and also abusive emails, phone calls and posts on our Facebook page. Whether or not I as an employee agree with the sacking of Mark Harvey or not there is no where for my opinion, I must do what the club have asked of me and this is to not talk to any press and also when talking to others about the issue, the Head of the Football Department has briefed us on what happened so that we all know, so this will prevent rumours going around the club and then going out to the outside world and to the press.
This issue of ethics is very important, especially within the club because sacking a Coach and appointing a new club Coach on the same day brings up very unethical issues of loyalty, which was addressed numerous times by the Media within the press conference.
Although this issue is unfortunate and not a happy one it is a very exciting time to be doing work placement, so I will keep everyone updated on what else happens and also on the email and e- newsletter story that we put out within the next few weeks. Thanks guys

sounds exciting! I think to be amongst the uproar would be hugely beneficial to your experience at the club. It gives you a first hand experience as to how a huge issue, almost a crisis you could say, is handled and how you are to act and the media coverage around it. I kind of wish something as exciting would happen at my work placement!

I have previously done work experience at The Fremantle Football Club in the Events Managementn department, so it is very interesting to read your posts and see what you are up to with your placement.
It seems the new coach situation has opened your eyes to the instant turns an organisation can take and the effect of this on the employees, fans and other stakeholders. I am sure you are also dealing with challenges of your own regarding your personal moral code and working with an organisation that is currently dealing with negative press and rumours.
This is crisis communication at it's best!
Especially when the FFC and Australian Football in general has such a passionate following, it is important that PR is managed to ensure the FFC's reputation is upheld and the press is controlled.
Goodluck with everything over the next few weeks, im sure you will gain some invaluable experience! I know I loved working with FFC :)
Wow, I think it certainly would be a very interesting time to be doing your work with Freo. I am a Freo supporter so have been rather upset about the goings on at the club, but I found it most insightful to read your post. It is interesting to get an 'insider' perspective on what happened, and Im sure its been quite the experience for you. I hope you enjoy the rest of your placement time and come away with more useful experience.

Thanks girls fro yuor comments and thoughts. Yes it has been a bit of an uproar but I feel the CEO and the owener and also the staff and players have dealt with the matter in the best way. All of the staff were addressed by the head of football in order to prevent any rumours and also just to let everyone knows the truth and what was going on and I believe that this was a smart move from the club. Bute yes it definately has tested my ethics and moral codes and it has been although a sad time a quite exciting time in terms of the experience I am and also will gain from this.
