Helping the marketing co-coordinator to write the company news letter is another interesting experience I would like to share with you guys. So far I've helped with two monthly newsletters for UON, and I must say it was no easy feat. Basically I had to research, interview, write, edit and assemble the contents for the newsletter with minimum help, sounds daunting I know. Fortunately I had sufficiently time and enough materials to go on, the hard part wasn't writing the stories, editing were actually more time consuming. That was because the newsletter had a certain layout and must follow the company regulations. Some data and had to be left of the articles if it's seem not fit for the employees to read (ie. company earning and profits). On top of that the newsletter had to be visually appealing, employees love seeing their photos in them. All in all the process was long and strenuous but also quite rewarding in the end, there is something satisfying about people reading about your work.

Just a quick question, what exactly is UON?
Interviewing, writing and editing stories for a newsletter is also something I've had to do for aged care organisation Uniting Church Homes. I loved the task because there was a whole heap of feel good stories about old people with new gardening beds and celebrating staff milestones. Very cute. However we send it off to a designer to assemble and layout the newsletter, and just provide them with the stories! (which seems a lot easier). Was there any specific program you had to use to design the newsletter? And what type of stories did you have to write? Great experience though :)
I haven’t been given the opportunity to write a newsletter yet at my work placement but I get given the final draft to edit before it gets published (definitely not as exciting as writing it) But I noticed when I first started editing I barely picked up anything but now I pick up more things and able to offer suggestions to re-write things to make it sound better. So after my rambling, the point I’m tying to make is it helps to get a fresh set of eyes for editing to pick up things you don’t see.
