Interesting 1st day

When I got accepted National Water & Sewerage Corporation (NWSC) Uganda to do my internship, i was the-riled and couldn't wait to start working with them since its a government body and not everyone gets lucky or gets the chance to work in a government company back home.

Although i was excited to work with NWSC, deep down i was worried about one thing, " having a mean, tough and harsh supervisor". The 1st day all morning on the way to work , i was praying hard i not to get appointed to such a person.

Arriving at the office reception i asked for the human resource manager whom i had an appointment with and to my surprise he is a young gentleman around 28 to 30 years of age though he is a very serious man because he did not smile at all even when i tried to. In my head I was thinking okay his young but serious at work, his office was too quite i could even hear the clock counting( maybe its cause i was nervous)

He asked me a few questions about my self, signed my replacement letter and directed me to the PR department were i was going to settle and meet my supervisor... as i was walking to the my PR department i was seeing the rest of the workers at their work stations through the glass windows all busy and quite but still they all look young straight from compass.
Getting to my department i was impressed because i found them arguing about something and it was a bit lively and warmer i felt welcome than the human resource department which was to serious.

My supervisor who happens to be the Pr manager of NWSC introduces her self and guess what, "she is just 27years old", I was shocked and happy that she was not my imagination. she welcomed me well, she is friendly and caring.we chatted like for an hour before she assigned me what i was going to be doing for the day and that's when i realized i maybe had a wrong picture in my head about work places and their bosses.

Today she basically took me through the NWSC history background and all then introduced me to her co workers that i will be working with.

I should say today was a great day full off surprises and hope for a better one tomorrow.

Sounds like a fairly exciting but nerveracking start to your internship! Its good to see that there is some younger people who you will be working with so hopefully they can give you some insight into how the have built their careers and made it to a position such as theirs.

I hope that internship has so far been interesting, rewarding and not too challenging and allowed to get some good experience in a large corportation.

Good luck!

i was also a little freaked out on my first day at the job, more particularly because my supervisor was old enough to be my mother. was tense but after she chat me up a bit it was all good.

this just goes to remind us that at work our supervisors are not our lectures and we should stop freaking. if you get the job done right, you guaranteed to sail through with no problems :)

It is good you were warmly welcomed.May be the gentleman just wanted to intimidate you a little to see how confident you were. But good thing is you were given the job.Did they invite you to join their argument?
