Hands on work

Hello Everyone.

During my placement at the Ministry of Local Government i had the opportunity to put to action what i equipped myself with from the Classroom world into the field world.

I was basically assigned with publications work, my duties included:

  • Attending seminars, forums, meetings and events and writing newsworthy stories on the events.
  • Contributing articles for the weekly e-bulletin.
  • Attending  Public Relations management meetings.
  • Designing a program.
At first it was a challenge for me to do all the above mentioned duties, but with time i managed to get used to the work load. My supervisor was also helpful whenever i needed his help. Everything that i did had to pass through him, he was indeed a great mentor.

At times he challenged me to see whether i actually understood what i was doing and what he was teaching me. We would spend so much time in the office trying to come up with innovative ideas that would help our department be of better reputation as compared to other departments in the ministry. It was necessary for our department to be an example to other departments because as a Public Relations department, we are the image of the whole organisation, people judge the organisation through what we as the Public Relations department portray to them. Therefore we always have to be innovative and come up with ideas that would put a smile on the people our organisation serve.

Regards

Salvador
