31st August 2013- Final meeting for Open day 2013

The Final meeting with all Corporate communication and Human resource department of Curtin University
Media release showing Open day Advertising

Hello my fellow PR Internship Bloggers! Today I attended our second Open day event meeting, which was supposed to be the final Open day meeting before the actual event. The event is next week and just like any other corporate group some of the most crucial elements where being discussed today. The meeting started off at 3:00 Pm and most of the Curtin Human Resource department employees where present along with our Corporate communication staff.

Just like every other meeting, Mr. Nicholas Leong initiated the checklist running through each individual in charge. The checklist and discussion covered almost the whole event. Topics for the different media releases, Budget, Food canopies, the MC’s, the different programs during the day such as kiddies corner, Miri’s got talent, Mr. and Miss Curtin, etc. where discussed about.
During the meeting different employees had to voice out any opinions or clash of ideas in order to tackle any negativity or crisis in the whole event. During this meeting we also discussed sponsorships and I was mesmerized with the wide number of sponsors we had for this event. We had sponsorships from Eastwood Valley Golf and Country Club offering meal vouchers, thirty other corporate bodies contributed in cash that can be used to promote environmental and charitable causes. Some of them where See Hua Marketing, Sarawak Shell, Tenby International school and Miri City Council. The Miri Health Department, Palliative Care Home Programme and Piasau Animal Welfare Support (Paws) are participating in the Charity and Community Corner. The sponsors for programmes such as Kiddies Corner, Miri’s Got Talent and Mr and Miss Curtin contests are May bank, Global Art, Pustaka Miri, Magic Beauty and Perfect Stage Make Up Academy. Air Asia will be sponsoring return airfares to Singapore for the event’s two grand lucky draws, complementing prizes sponsored by Aim-Exact Services, Mandara Spa, Miri Marriott Resort and Spa, as well as ParkCity Everly Hotel Miri. The lucky draw also involves Sony Bravia 32” TVs, 8.0s iPad Minis and Samsung Galaxy Note. Seeking Sponsorship for an event can create positive publicity for Curtin University in whole and also for the event and also In enhancing image or reputation.Contact lists where being updated and even petty things were given attention such as garbage bins, VIP placards, plastic chairs, tables, etc and each of them where assigned to one member to be taken care of. My duty during the event was to basically follow my supervisor Miss Marcella Gider and assist her in every thing she does. This was pretty clear for me and the next thing round the corner was the event.

I am so exited for this event, as this is the first time I am taking part along with the organizers that is the corporate communication staff. After the event, I was given my Open T-shirt, which was the official shirt to be worn on the day of event by all the members. I shall write about the event in my next blog. I hope this will be a learning experience and also a fun filled one!

Hi Sruthi,

Thank you for sharing your experiences with us. I enjoy reading your post and event planning is indeed an exciting task to take part. I was exciting as well when I was able to attend a meeting in my placement when there is an event to be held. Truly is an informative information I gain here.

Hi Sruthi,

I can relate to your excitement as I was also part of the initial planning. planning an event is very exciting but at the same time very hectic and tiring. you have to be aware of the very tiny details.
