Hello
again!
So after
10 great days at my placement, I came to realize that one does not become a PR
practitioner but instead becomes a PR person.
Well, I
found out that once you start getting involved, even if you are there only for
a couple of days a week, your mind works full time. Before you know it,the world around you
becomes this huge concentration of PR ideas and opportunities.
You start
noticing what your company’s competitors are doing, you spot trends in the news
that could be useful and you jot down ideas sourced from the smallest things
you have noticed.
It does not
matter where I am or what I’m doing, my brain has already adopted this way of
thinking in focus with PR and communication. That
emerging NGO becomes a partnership opportunity, this quirky girl with the
energetic personality becomes a potential brand spokesperson and that funny
picture on Google becomes the inspiration for a campaign.

| How my brain feels. |
It is quite
funny in fact, since FSB Marketing has over 30 brands yet it almost seems like I
am now programmed to notice what both direct and indirect competitors for each
brand is doing.
Even today
when I had to do media clippings for around 50 magazines, I was not only
cutting out relevant articles which I was asked to do. I was noting down
interesting sections which we could target next time all while scanning what
other brands were doing.
This is
when you realize that PR is actually not something you do; it almost merges
with who you are.
I guess
developing this mind frame helps to merge PR skills like creativity, initiative
and the ability to communicate effectively into communication plans.
Now I don’t
know if I’m just over passionate and this is why I see things this way but I
would love to know if this has also happened to any of you.
Take care,
Vaneeda.

Heya Vaneeda,
I loved reading your post "PR is not a part time job" You hooked me in the first few lines, a very good trait for an aspiring PR professional!
At first I was so confused with your concept of not being just a practitioner but a person of PR, but it is all so clear now and one point of view I never stumbled across! Your 'PR Person' concept however is so relative to myself, during my internship which I completed during May, June and July for two days a week (because I was contracted at work) I found myself continually thinking about ways to enhance HBF through a public relations standpoint or media releases I could whip up! I also had a whole blog concept drawn up with themes, monthly topics, frequency of posts and even tags for those blogs! I got seriously consumed in PR - it was crazy, but I enjoyed living in that frame of mind!
So yes I see where you are coming from, and I think being passionate is a wonderful trait, it will get you more places!
I'll be waiting for your next posts to see what other hidden concepts of PR you can enlighten me too!
Stay Safe and enjoy your internship!
Kiara :)
Hi Vaneeda,
It is very easy to relate to everything that you have said on PR. I feel exactly the same and I am enjoying it a lot.
You are very passionate about your job which reminds me that I am as well because when I read your post I realise that I also look for other stuff in the newspaper which I do find interesting to file.
Have you had a positive feedback on the other articles that you found?
Good luck for the rest of your internship, looking forward to read about your experience soon!
Regards,
Roxanne
Hello Vaneeda
I can absolutely relate. I am not only learning with this internship but I can feel that I am changing into a more mature person. I've been studying PR for 4 semesters and currently a 5th one and i would say I am completely in love with PR. However, now I am more than sure that my dream job is anything in the PR field.
I am seeing PR all around me. I talk about PR everyday! I talk about PR with everyone! It is incredible how these few days of internship have changed my personality.
Enjoy your internship.
Cheers
Gunadevi
Hello Kiara,
I'm glad that you liked it and thank you for the compliment.
It's also great knowing that i'm not the only one experiencing this. I can only assume that you too must be really passionate about PR. It's funny actually, I have noticed that a lot of people doing PR right now realize it's crazy but that's what makes us love it even more.
I'm happy you had a good experience where you were. Feel free to keep sharing your experiences with me and I shall keep sharing my 'hidden concepts with you'
All the best,
Vaneeda
Hello Roxanne,
It does not surprise me that you feel the same way, knowing how hard working and involved you are.
I did not really get to have it checked, I was only asked to classify the articles for later use. However what I found did help me to come up with a few ideas for the company.
I hope you are still having a pleasant time where you are.
Keep working hard,
Vaneeda
Hi Gunadevi,
From reading your comment, it seems evident that you are very enthusiastic about it. I am very happy to hear that you are not only learning but also maturing. I believe enthusiasm and a positive attitude are definitely traits that will help in not only the PR field but any career path.
All the best for the rest of your internship,
Vaneeda.
