This morning was crazy! I got to my internship and the
office was empty...not a person in site.
I sat in the kitchen, made myself a coffee them turned on my
computer and read my emails to find out I had been invited to the monthly board
meeting. I walked over to the board room and the meeting had already
started...as I walked in everyone stopped, stared at me but then welcomed me
in!
The first thing they do in there board meetings is talk
about what each department has done over the past month and there upcoming
prospects. As a group we all spoke about the current company operations,
marketing strategies, donations, financing, human resources, safety
regulations, sales and PR.
By 11 o'clock I though the meeting was wrapping up…but nope!
It was now everyone’s turn to talk individually about what they have been
working on and what their future and current plans are. Since I was sitting
next to the CEO I was told to go first. I
spoke about how I'm doing the event planning for the Annual Santa Fun Run and the
annual summer newsletter. Once I had stopped talking the marketing manager told
the staff how I have come up with new ideas with ways to target people for the
Santa Fun Run and everyone seemed really happy with what I had come up with!
Everyone was starting to get restless at this time and the meeting went completely
off track and dragged on.
By lunch time the meeting finally ended... it goes to show
how much actually happens in a charity and there is constantly something
happening! Now I know why they don’t have the meeting once a week………because it
goes for so long and takes up nearly a whole day of work!

Hey Hannah, that sounds a little bit nerve racking! But a great experience to know what a real board meeting is like! Grace
Hey Hannah!
So unlucky that you missed the meeting memo haha but you recovered really well! Sounds like you’re making a real impact on your current project. I love it when I share ideas and everyone really appreciates the effort you’ve gone to. I think meetings should be short n sweet because like you said, it starts to drag on and goes off topic. It does however sound like there were lots to discuss so maybe it’s a necessary evil as well. I’m doing a mentor based internship and we have a small half hour meeting every morning to discuss how we’re going with our projects and what we need to get done, it really puts things into perspective!
I’m on my last day and I’m so sad to be leaving!
Good luck with the rest of your internship!
Feel free to have a look at my last blog ☺

Hi Hannah, you're funny haha. I couldn't help but smile imagining you getting the email and sneaking into the meeting while they were all there though I know it might have been stressful, I guess it happens. Don't worry they must have stared at you thinking wow such a beautiful lady just entered :)
A meeting is an interesting experience amongst professionals, unfortunately I did not experience it while at my internship.
All the best
Thierry
