Sacrifice, Interdepartment Communication and Publishing your Media Release!

So the Telstra Perth Fashion Festival begins this Wednesday. For the last two weeks when ever I go into the office there is an excited buzz that is almost tangible, and the signs of stress have become rather apparent.

Time management, while essential, has become a farce. I have my tasks and I complete them ASAP to the highest standards possible, but I think when working for an event in any capacity, not just PR, you can never manage your time well enough. So much so, that I volunteered to help the PR girls on a Saturday to complete the seating charts and sort out tickets for the media at all the shows. From 1030AM to 230PM on a beautiful Saturday afternoon I was stuck in an office tower overlooking the city. Such are the sacrifices that we must be prepared to make on the job! Not only this, but all week I have been sent out on errands to retrieve much needed items, it's basically been a scavenger hunt, and I have loved every second of it..... except the part where I was running through the city in heels and almost broke my ankle on several occasions....

There has been a bit a communication breakdown over the last week or two. Even though the office has MAXIMUM 30 people working in it, including interns. The lack of communication has seen little mistakes and changes not be fixed by the person who makes or notices them, but have them piled on the PR desks. It's all well and good that the PR department filters everything to ensure consistency of message and format, but being such a small office, everyone knows how it works. It's not like they do not have access to fix the mistakes either, they can open the original document and edit it, but they won't. It only requires an email or brief conversation to say, "hey guys I have fixed/changed this". Taking initiative is something that seems to disappear when we get stressed and have out tunnel vision goggles on. I am guilty of having done this on occasion in the past, but seeing it in action it amazing.

Everyone is under pressure, and is stressed out. Some of the girls in the office are barely getting a minimum of 7 hours sleep per night. Some are getting into the office at 6AM and not leaving until well after 6PM. Eating habits have gone down the drain, I don't think anyone has been using their gym memberships, and most of these girls are there every day before or after work. Basically everyone lives have been put on hold until TPFF is finished.

On the bright side, however, the designer backgrounds that I was working on in my first few weeks were published in the STM over the weekend! I was waiting with a great amount of anticipation for this weeks STM. I have contributed a lot of time and research to the information that was in there about TPFF. Even though it was no where near word for word, and a lot of information was cut, its all my hard work, that with a little reshaping published! I finally get to see an end result to some of my projects.

There are free events in the city Friday, Saturday and Sunday, come down and check them out!

Well that's all from me for now. I will keep you updated during the festival!
Wish me luck!

Ashlyn out!
