Today was my last day as a intern and I am sad to say it is over. The past twenty days has been stressful to say the least, however it has been an amazing experience and I am very grateful to have worked with such an inspiring lady.
Over the last twenty days my public relations skills have been tested in the real world. At the start of my internship my confidence was very low and I felt as though everything I had learnt during my time at Curtin University had gone in one ear and out the other. Luckily after the first few days everything came back to me and I was able to practice my skills as a proper PR consultant.
During my time At Spyn Public Relation I was able to work with a number of clients including Pure Bar, Tickle Me Pink, ISA Group, Subiaco Hotel, Presbyterian Ladies College, Bayswater Hotel, Nappy Collective and the Rotary Club of Freshwater Bay. With each client I was given the opportunity to put together media alerts, practice professional emailing, contact journalists, create press releases, develop contact reports, conduct media follow ups, attend events and develop communication plans. When I started each task I was very nervous, however towards the end of the twenty days my confidence grew and I became better at each task I was given.
Nicki, my supervisor told me today that I have improved and come so far and it has only been twenty days, she said she had seen improvements in my confidence, writing skills and initiative. She said with more practice and experience I will go far in the Public Relations industry. She helped boost my self esteem and for that I am grateful.
To show Nicki's confidence in my work she allowed me to take responsibility for one of her charity clients, the Rotary Club of Freshwater Bay. I created their press release, before
sending the press release, Nicki said I could put my own contact details on the release and in the email; normally I would have used Nicki’s contact
information. This was very exciting, I
was flattered that Nicki had faith in me. This also meant if media
had any queries about the Sports Exchange they would have to contact me.
I can't wait for the future and can't wait to see where I will be a year from now. I am happy I had Nicki to guide me and help me make the transition from uni into the real world.
This may be the end of my internship but its the start of my future.
Thank you to Nicki Williams for providing me with my internship experience and Curtin University for the knowledge needed to become a successful PR consultant.
Good luck to everyone in the future, I wish you all the best!

Hi Meika!
Congratulations on finishing your internship! it is sad when it comes to an end and you have to leave the people that you have gotten to know so well.
Sounds like you have gained so much from this experience, much like myself who is so grateful that WAFarmers gave me the opportunity to work with them.
I too was so nervous on my first day - worried i had forgotten everything i had learnt. PR is what i love doing though, and once i started working it just came back to me naturally.
I think we can both agree that this unit has been a great opportunity for us and all the other students to prepare ourselves for the real-world (without it coming as such a shock).
I have gained so much from this internship and this was by far the best unit in my degree.
Good luck to you too! From what your supervisor has said about you it sounds like you will do well in the future!
Kind Regards
