A couple of weeks ago a community engagement officer role
was advertised on our jobs board. I applied, interviewed and got the job!
The role is responsible for coordinating and managing all
community communications for projects in our wastewater conveyance portfolio.
In particular, the Minister recently announced a $50 million dollar commitment to
the State’s infill sewerage program, which will provide funding for ten new
projects – and the need for lots of effective community engagement - over the
next four years.
I feel like all my work experience in the communications branch has finally paid off. I’m super excited to embark on this next venture and to take personal ownership (one of the Water Corporation’s corporate values) of the responsibilities which will come with the role.
As I transition between my external affairs role into
my community engagement role it has really got me thinking about my public
relations learnings throughout my time at uni. The time has now come to apply these
learnings into my new community engagement role.
So this will be my last blog before wrapping up my
internship and moving into my new community engagement role. I feel extremely
fortunate to be given the opportunities to pursue my dream of working within
public relations. Good luck to everyone; aim high, work hard and I have no
doubt you will succeed and achieve great things.
