'The home straight!'

Hola all, for the last time!

After completing 20 working days with Perth Racing, a lot of valuable lessons have been learnt. Here are a couple of key take-outs I will be using into my future career, and I hope you can too:

1.    Be prepared to be self motivated
The ability to be self motivated throughout employment is a skill that requires practice and consideration. This skill I feel is valuable through out the whole span of our future careers in order to develop a strong work ethic and deliver results that are reflective of our attitudes. No one else can do this for you, so make sure you work hard at this!
2.    Communication is vital
I know, I know, we all know it is important, but it is too valuable to the working career to overlook! We need to continuously develop our communications skills both verbal and written in order to effectively connect with stakeholders, and build prosperous relationships.
3.    Evaluation is necessary
It’s not all about what went wrong, but we need to address what went right too! Evaluation of our own work, a colleague’s work or a client’s work is essential in making vital improvements and progressing in the future. Do not skip this step; make sure it becomes common practice after each brief, event or client meeting!

I have learnt the importance of public relations in the racing industry is to effectively communicate the key messages and effectively address negative feedback or outside scrutiny from influencing groups. Building strong relationships with both internal and external stakeholders in the racing industry is the best way to control crisis situations. With the racing industry in the spotlight from animal welfare groups it is essential now more then ever that public relations maintains a strong presence within the industry.

I wish you all the best for you future! I hope to see you all out there next year kicking big goals!
